“When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coalmining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a 19th century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.
When Calls the Heart: Lost & Found is a touching and gripping tale from Janette Oake, that was brought to the screen by director Michael Landon Jr. and the Hallmark channel. Lost and Found is the first film of this new series, which is a continuation of the original film.
Having reviewed the film, I can say that this series is one that I want to see more of. The inspirational tale is something of a throwback compared to modern day telling’s. The Directing is quite modest by today’s standards. This will come as a relief for this film’s target audience. I watched this film with my mother and we both loved it. In a time when Christian entertainment is scarce, Lost and Found shines like a gem, offering an inspirational work of fiction that is entertaining, without sacrificing moral integrity.
The Movie’s main character Elizabeth overcomes adversity early in the film to rise and meet the challenge of educating children in a community stricken with tragedy and devoid of hope. For me, the best part about this movie is the message that, through faith and perseverance, even the toughest and most gloomy situations can be turned into something good.
