Think Fun Unhinged Review

I am always trying to keep my kids brains sharpened. While there are many ways to do this I have found a new fun way to do so. ThinkFun has sent us another amazingly fun game to test out. Unhinged is a simply, yet challenging puzzle that really gets your mind working.

There are several Think Fun games for all ages 4 and up like Junior Games, Logic Games, Family Games, and Brainteasers. Think Fun Games offer certain games for certain skills like Reasoning, Visual, Memory, Verbal, and Math.

There are several different online games you can play. While they also offer apps for the iPhone and the Android. So, whether you are home with the kids or at the Dr.'s with your little ones you can offer them online games to play.

Unhinged is made up of 10 hexagons with one side being blue and the other side being white. The hexagons are hinged together to where you can flip, fold, and twist the puzzle to form many different patterns. There is also a booklet that has 40 different challenges for beginners all the way to an expert.

The goal of the game is to re-create patterns that are printed in the booklet that comes with the Unhinged hexagons. It might appear simple, but believe me, it's not. The dual sided-hexagons are all connected by a hinge on the right side. Since each hexagon has only two hinges, the are able to stack atop one another while still connected. This makes you feel like you are always working in the right direction, which helps you stay dedicated to figuring the pattern out. I thought it was a totally relaxing and therapeutic experience, this game helps stimulate your brain activity, this makes you feel more functional and think more efficiently. It's just like those brain-age games on mobile devices, game systems, and personal computers, only you use your hands constructively, which makes it such a more authentic experience.

Unhinged is a game of involvement, much like the rubric cube, but nowhere near as frustrating. This is one advantage that I feel unhinged has over the rubic cube, another advantage is the ability to complete several puzzles. After you figure the rubic cube out, it is pretty much game over.

Two things worth mentioning are how fascinated my children were with figuring out the patterns, and how quickly it stole their attention from the electronic devices they usually play on.

This is a very cool game. I like things that are solid and that last a long time. The unhinged puzzle is very durable. Think stiff, like plastic poker chips, but softer and lighter. The hinges aren't metal, but the plastic-like material is very flexible, and looks and feels very strong. This is a very original and interesting game that doubles as a charming novelty.
