Beverly Lewis' "The Shunning" DVD Review/Giveaway

I don't get to sit that often but when I do get the chance to relax, I love to get a junk food in front of me and watch a good. Although a lot of time's I am alone when I watch movies because my kids only really want to watch cartoons and well hubby he just isn't that much into girly movies. I completely understand because I am not much into those manly movies. It has been a little while since I have taken the time to sit and relax and well enjoy a good movie. I was so happy when I was given the chance to review the movie Beverly Lewis "The Shunning" DVD which is a Hallmark Channel Original and let me say this movie was so great and it really had me feeling several different emotions throughout the movie.

I would love to share with you a little bit about Beverly Lewis the author of The Shunning. She was born in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country,  and is The New York Times bestselling author of more than eighty books.  Her stories have been published in eleven languages worldwide.  A keen interest in her mother's Plain heritage has inspired Lewis to write many Amish-related novels, beginning with "The Shunning," which has sold more than one million copies.  In 2007, Lewis' "The Brethren" was honored with a Christy Award. Lewis has been interviewed by both national and international media, including Time magazine, the Associated Press, and the BBC.

This movie will open up so many emotions, which to be honest has been a long time since a movie has done this for me. There is a young girl named Katie in her 20's, whom is devouted to the  Amish world, she has always felt pulled in two totally different directions despite her immersion in her small town's ways. She secretly sings music which is off non Amish songs and hides her charished guitar from her very strict but truly loving parents.

When the movie first starts Katie is set to wed the most eligible bachelor in her community the new bishop. Yet Katie's heart has not gotten over her first love, Daniel. There are several flashbacks throughout the movie of Daniel.  Daniel was presumed to have drowned three years earlier, but his body had never been found. So, this really tugs at her heart. Wondering how could she marry another if her true love was still alive.

There is an issue that arises within the movie with Sherry Stringfield whom plays Laura, a big-city woman on a mission to clear up some long-buried details from her own past. They do make her very unwelcome to the community that is to say the least.  Yet the news that she carries is tied with Katie's family and fate--and lives are upturned even as everyone fights desperately to do the right thing.

The news comes to the surprise to Katie when she finds out that her parents were in fact not her biological parents. The news came right before she was to marry a leader of the Amish community and to say the less there were a lot of emotions which in return causes her to be shunned.

The Shunning refers to the ultimate punishment among the Amish--someone who's committed an offense against the community may not be spoken to or looked at until true repentance is achieved.  The Shunning is a drama about people, connections, love, and loss, and it's told with respect and heart.

I feel so much for the character not knowing whom she really is and not knowing how she should feel and what she should do. Be shunned is such a horrible thing that it really was just so shocking how that is done and to be honest not sure if I still do. This movie brought out so many feelings and tears. I do have to say I am so happy I had the chance to review this movie and I know that it is a movie that I will watch over and over. The story is so amazing written and anyone is able to connect on some level with the movie.
